Our anniversary tradition is to explore a place we’ve never been. This year, we hit the road to Philadelphia. This is the perfect example of “the hotel is the destination”. The geniuses over at Jersey Icecream Design Co. created 6 killer rooms at Lokal, Old City. I’m such a fan of all of their work, so I knew this place would be such a MOOD.
We arrived on Friday afternoon to check into our one bedroom suite, “Ben” and my eyes lit up when I walked into this place for the first time. Everything is so detail-oriented and could not align with my style more. We settled in with a bottle of wine and jammed to our favorite tunes. Then, we set out on the town. 3rd street is lined with small shops, art galleries, book stores, and quaint markets – what a dream. Overall, Old City was such a fun neighborhood to explore. When in Philly, try the cheesesteak, right? We went to one of the popular joints, Sonny’s, just a few blocks away from our place. Bellies full, we walked it off to Independence Hall and Liberty Bell. Naturally, we had to do at least one historical tour. That led us to drinks at 2nd Story Brewery – try the jalapeño beer!
The next day, we had an early rise and escaped to Fishtown. This artsy neighborhood was the flagship location of La Colombe coffee. A must visit if you’re in the area. Fresh roasted coffee in the coolest industrial style building. On our trek back to Old City, we stopped at the Flea Market along the dock of the river. So many treasures to admire. After lunch, we made our way to Rittenhouse Square to relax at the park and pop in a few stores. City shopping! By late afternoon, it was time to switch rooms. We had the opportunity to try out two different rooms during our stay. Because they are all designed a bit different, I was excited to gush all over again. This time, we checked into “Louisa” which is their two bedroom penthouse suite – OKKK. I could have lived here the rest of my life. So good. It was the thrill of a new space all over again *que the wine and music* As evening hit, we made plans for The Victor Cafe (as seen in Rocky!) It was an experience like no other. The waiters all sing opera and it was seriously magical.
By Sunday, Ryan had to pry me out of there. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later, Lokal.
