THE PALETTE | black, white, brass, earth tones
One thing was certain at the start of designing our kitchen; black cabinets were a MUST. Everything else fell into place around that idea. People are often afraid to choose black because it can make the space feel smaller, which is why white is so popular! The trick to not making it seem so small is to eliminate dark, bulky cabinets where your eye automatically focuses *UPPERS!* And that’s where we incorporated open shelving instead. Because I adore the look of oversized brass pulls against black cabinets, it was the chosen accent metal throughout the kitchen. Both the cabinets and pulls are from Semi Handmade. They make high quality door/drawer fronts fit for Ikea bases which gives the look of a custom kitchen! This 6×6 white tile will serve as our backsplash to keep things bright. It’s basically the new subway tile, ya heard? Last but certainly not least, the countertops are BOLD! After much debate, I said go bold or go home, no room for safe decisions around here! I fell in love with this quartzite at Armina Stone instantly. Being that this is an open concept layout, we needed to tie in the wood beams and concrete fireplace in the living room. This type of stone really vibes with the entire space – modern, yet earthy.
